The Human Subtle Energy System-Part II (Aura)

Our aura, or energy field, is an electromagnetic field that emanates from and surrounds our physical body. The aura is composed of seven primary energy bodies that each represent a level of energy and correspond with a specific primary Chakra (see Part I). As an energy field, our aura is always on, whether we are aware of it or not. For example, when we meet someone for the first time or shake their hand, we instantly have a feeling about the other person, however subtle that feeling might be. We could feel an immediate liking and attraction or conversely an immediate discomfort with that person. These feelings represent our auric energy field interacting with the other person’s auric field and sensing their energy—positive or negative.

Each of our energy bodies, that together compose our aura, are like concentric layers one within the other that interpenetrate each other due to the unique vibrational frequency of each. The first three layers are related to the physical body, the second three layers are related to the spiritual body, and the last layer is the connection with the Divine Source. While each body is layered on top of each other, they also include each of the layers below it, such that layer 7 is also part of layer 6 and layer 5, just as layer 6 is part of layer 5 and layer 4, etc. This is true all the way through to the core, or our physical body. Amazingly, this format replicates the layering in the afterlife as well, since the afterlife also consists of multiple, concentric layers within each other. This same format also exists throughout all existence, including energies around all matter (whether alive or not) and every universal sphere (from planets to stars, etc). This is too consistent and structured to have come into existence via random force, so there must be an intelligence that created this refined organization. But that’s separate topic for another book….

THE ETHERIC BODY

The first energy body we should consider is the Etheric Body, which is approximately one-quarter to two inches away from your physical body and is connected to the Root (first) Chakra. This energy body resonates at nearly 20 cycles per minute, and is perceived to be in the bluish-grey color spectrum via Kirlian photography. The Etheric body is an exact template of our physical body and holds the blueprints to our organs, muscles, tissues and bones. The Etheric body has no life of its own, but interpenetrates the physical body. With the death of the physical body, the Etheric body carries the other bodies away, later dissolves and its energy is returned to the general Etheric field. Once the Etheric body has dissolved the physical body begins to decompose. This energy body exists as matter in the lower Etheric Plane (i.e. part of our “spirit” is seen as matter in the afterlife), but soon gives way to the Emotional, Mental and Astral bodies above it.

THE EMOTIONAL BODY

The next energetic body is the Emotional Body, which is the aura’s second layer and interpenetrates the first layer. It can be seen about one inch to about four inches away from the body. This layer is connected to the Sacral (second) chakra and reflects a person’s mood. Unlike the first layer which totally contours the physical body, the Emotional Body’s shape remains in constant motion. The color can be anything – depending upon the current mood and emotional well being of the person and is often associated with a rainbow of hues. Any disconnect or imbalance in this layer will heavily impact the first and third layers.

THE MENTAL BODY

Visible about three inches to about eight inches away from the physical body is the Mental Body, or the third energy layer. You will see this layer, containing mostly your ideas, largely around the head and part of the shoulders, containing mostly yellow hues. This layer is connected to the Solar Plexus (third) chakra of the body. This layer represents beliefs, power of understanding, intellect and thoughts; the way ideas, thoughts and beliefs are validated and rationalized.

THE ASTRAL BODY

Found about a foot away from the body, the Astral Body or fourth layer, is the link between the physical and spiritual bodies. This layer represents the bridge to the spiritual realm and is the doorway to the Astral plane. This layer is connected with the Heart (fourth) chakra, which is likewise a bridge between the physical and the spiritual. The Astral Body enables us to leave our physical body while sleeping (or in deep meditation) and temporarily visit the spiritual plane. While alive, we’re still connected to our physical body via an elastic silver cord. This layer represents the ability to interact with people, love and kinship. Once the Astral Body has separated from our lower energy bodies, then our spiritual being, or soul, has left for the spiritual realm.

THE CONCEPTUAL BODY 

This is also known as the Etheric Template Body and extends about one to two feet from the physical body. This is the spiritual copy of the physical body and is therefore unique to each person, just as the fingerprints are. Many describe this fifth layer as the carbon copy of the physical body, but in the spiritual plane. It connects with the Throat (fifth) chakra, which represents creativity, vibration, communication and sound.

THE CELESTIAL BODY 

This is the aura’s sixth layer. Situated at a distance of about two to three feet from the body, this layer connects with the Third-Eye (sixth) chakra. This layer represents the connectivity between the physical and spiritual mind, normally achieved through deep meditation. Often appearing as bright, shimmering opalescent colors, you become more aware of the Celestial Body as you raise your vibrations, level of awareness, and consciousness. As you work from the Heart chakra to the sixth level, feelings of divine love and a connection with our fellow man become reality.

THE SOUL OR KETHERIC BODY 

This seventh layer, also known as the Causal Body, would seem to be holding all other layers together and can extend out about three to five feet away from the body. This layer appears gold in color and is shaped like an egg. This is the layer that is the “memory” of the immortal soul and contains all information and experiences the soul has undergone. It vibrates at the highest level and represents every experience physical and spiritual of the soul from inception until present. This is where the Universe connects with the body, is the link to The Divine and makes it possible to become one with It.

The main takeaway from learning about all these energetic layers is that it's quite clear that our energetic form continues past the stage called death. After a human body experiences physical death, its energy remains, just as Einstein said it would (energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only change shape). The seven primary energetic layers represent that energy, which carries on into the spirit realms.
