There are days when the world feels too heavy. When the news rattles your peace, relationships fray at the edges, and everything you once leaned on begins to tremble. Turmoil shows up in many forms—loss, uncertainty, anxiety, conflict—and it doesn’t knock politely before barging in.
And in those moments, it’s so easy to ask the question many of us have whispered through tears:
“Where is Spirit now?”
I’ve asked it, too. In the middle of the night. At red lights. Curled up on the bathroom floor. And over time, gently and quietly, I’ve come to see that Spirit isn’t gone in those moments. We just sometimes lose the signal in all the noise.
But Spirit is still there—like the sun behind thick clouds, constant and unwavering, even when we can’t feel the warmth.
This blog is a gentle reminder that even in the chaos, Spirit hasn’t left you. Let’s walk together through a few ways we can find (or remember) that presence again, especially when life feels overwhelming.
1. Pause and Breathe—Spirit Enters Through the Quiet
When life turns chaotic, our first instinct is often to do something. Fix it. Understand it. Get out of it. And while there's nothing wrong with wanting resolution, sometimes what we need most isn’t more doing, but more being.
Take one deep breath right now.
Inhale for four counts. Hold. Exhale for six.
Do it again.
Notice that? That stillness—that soft space between the in and out breath—that’s where Spirit lives. That’s your access point. Sometimes, Spirit doesn’t shout. It waits for you in the silence.
When you can’t find answers, start with breath. It reconnects your body, mind, and spirit—and grounds you in the only moment that exists: this one.
2. Let the Turmoil Teach You (Yes, Really)
This might not be what you want to hear in the thick of it, but it’s true: times of turmoil often carry our deepest spiritual invitations.
Turmoil breaks down the illusion of control. It forces us inward, past surface distractions, toward the soul. It’s like life saying, “Come back home to yourself.”
As hard as it is, ask yourself:
What is this teaching me?
What part of me is growing stronger because of this?
Where might Spirit be guiding me—through the discomfort, not around it?
We don’t grow in the light alone. We stretch and reach and rise through the dark, too. That’s where soul-work happens. And the fact that it hurts doesn’t mean you're doing it wrong. It just means it’s real.
3. Connect With Nature—The Earth Always Whispers Spirit
There’s something about trees that don’t care about your deadlines. About rivers that keep flowing, no matter how turbulent life gets. Nature doesn’t rush, yet everything gets done.
When you're disconnected from Spirit, step outside. Feel your feet in the grass. Touch a leaf. Watch a bird. There’s a rhythm to life beneath the noise—and it has Spirit written all over it.
You don’t have to go on a hike. Just find a window. Watch the sky. Let the clouds remind you that even when things are stormy, they eventually shift. Always.
4. Ask for Help (It’s Not a Weakness, It’s a Bridge)
Sometimes we forget that Spirit responds not just to whispered prayers, but to raw cries, too. You don’t have to be poetic or perfect. You just have to be real.
“Help me, I don’t know what to do.”
“I feel lost—please send me a sign.”
“Show me I’m not alone.”
These are prayers. Spirit listens. Whether you speak them out loud or write them in your journal or mutter them under your breath in traffic—Spirit hears.
And if you're open, you might start to notice little nudges. A song lyric. A kind stranger. A sudden feeling of warmth. These are often the ways Spirit answers—not always loudly, but unmistakably.
5. Return to the Body—Spirit Lives There, Too
When turmoil strikes, we can become trapped in our heads—spinning, analyzing, overthinking. And while the mind is a powerful tool, it can also be a noisy place.
Spirit often speaks through the body. That gut feeling. The chill down your spine. The lump in your throat that says, “Something matters here.”
Soften your body and you make space for Spirit to settle in.
Stretch. Dance. Cry. Nap.
Place your hand on your chest and say, “I am here.” And then feel what answers back.
6. Look for Love—It’s Always a Clue
Where there is love, there is Spirit. Always.
Not just romantic love—but the quiet kind. The friend who checks in. The warm cup of tea. The neighbor who waves. Your dog nuzzling into you. That tiny voice inside that says, “Keep going.”
Love, in its many forms, is the language of Spirit. And once you start to notice it, you’ll see that even in the most uncertain times, Spirit is whispering, “I’m right here.”
7. Let Go of the Need to Know
One of the most painful parts of turmoil is not knowing. Not knowing what will happen next. Not knowing if things will work out. Not knowing how long this will last.
But here’s a secret: Spirit doesn’t live in certainty. Spirit lives in surrender.
Can you be with the not-knowing, even for just a moment? Can you rest in the mystery, even if you don’t understand it?
Let go of needing the map. Trust the next step will appear when it’s time. Sometimes Spirit doesn’t give you the whole path—just enough light for the step in front of you.
8. Let Loving-Kindness Guide Your Way Back
When the world feels cruel or unfair, our instinct might be to armor up. To shut down. But that only disconnects us further from the Source of love that created us.
Instead, lean into kindness. Not as a denial of pain, but as a response to it.
Be kind to someone else. Be radically kind to yourself.
Hold space for your own grief and also offer a smile to a stranger.
Both can exist at once. That’s the paradox of Spirit—it makes room for it all.
9. Know That This Will Pass—And So Will the Storm
No storm lasts forever. Even the most thunderous downpour eventually gives way to clear skies.
So if you feel far from Spirit today, hold on. Just hold on.
The clouds will part. The light will return. The ache in your chest will soften. And when it does, you’ll find you’ve grown roots you never knew were there. You’ll find you’ve become even more open, more tender, more aligned with who you truly are.
Not in spite of the turmoil.
But because of it.
Final Thought: Spirit Never Leaves You
It’s okay to forget. It’s okay to question. It’s okay to feel lost.
But know this: Spirit hasn’t abandoned you. Not now. Not ever.
You are not alone in this. You never were.
So take one small step toward the sacred. Light a candle. Whisper a prayer. Take a breath. And trust that even in the darkness, Spirit is holding you—gently, faithfully, eternally.
With love and quiet reassurance,
